The idea behind HUM started with Vipul Prakash's involvement with The Children's Library Trust in New Seemapuri, New Delhi.  As Vipul saw the tremendous work of the librarians he knew that he wanted to connect more people with such services.  He knew that this would be impossible unless the library was tied to a profit generating venture.  Vipul also noted that the residents seemed to be paying more for the same goods and services.  After the sale of his company, Elixer in 2012, Vipul found himself with the time and energy to devote to this task.  He met Rohini in November 2012 and talked to her about his vision.  They shared ideas and looked at best practices in the social entrepreneurship space over the next two months.  In January 2013, Rohini moved back to India and joined forces with Vipul and together they started the ground work for HUM.
